That is held commonly to be one of the reasons behind, or points of, magic and the study of it. Atavism, and thee potentiality within, thereof
That's why the study of folklore, legend, and all available worldwide mythos and myth are part of any magician's lot.
It's why the study of the narrative frameworks of psychology and of its many competing branches, as well as, why the study of narrative itself.
Humanity has been carried along her way by the very bio-spiritual cosmos which is all of nature's sentience within a living planetary sphere.
We were not always the top, but we've always have an ally.
Life has a stake in, and a voice which talks to, itself. The world pulses with communication. We live inside an array and are tuned to receive.
A beautiful book along similar lines is "star.ships - a prehistory of the spirits," by gordon white. Filled with gorgeous speculative insights, spoken in a humane voice as any good book on magic must be, and based on the author's synthesis of reams of data from 2016. A large section focusing on Göbekli Tepe, as seen through a magicians eye. Why we study pre-history.

Pulsing with communication. Writing is but a developed technology. In a slightly different sense, so too are the syntax which compose human speech-languages (as opposed to body or facial-languages—although large parts of all three are shaped by culture). What of nature's syntax?
We are tuned to transmit, as well as to receive. Hum and sing out, and tell nature you love her back! All of her—human nature too! Love and rejoice in all, and All answers back. That's why atavistic ceremony, dance, chants and drumming. Why it arose.
