The Witch Patch page 2 and 3

Fritters and more
Raven and I ate a quick lunch of tuna-fish sandwiches with a side salad and washed it all down with two glasses of fresh honemade leominade. After washing our hands and brushing our teeth we headed out the door. Hero led the way to Garrisons Orchard which is literally less than an 8th of mile from our house. It’s  Sunday, the best day for a nice walk…

Along the way about a half mile ahead of us, we noticed a couple of dirt devils caught up in a Argentine tango dancing carelessly across Sandmans field; kicking up all kinds of cinnamon, apple and pumpkin scented dirt into the air. A sapphire blue crytal caught my eye laying in the dirt so I picked it up and stashed into my boot.

The Garrisons hands down have the best fritters anywhere in the state. Sadly no one lives forever and Mrs.Garrison is no longer with us. (may she rest in peace) Since her passing her husband has taken up baking the treats. But to us, they don’t-quite taste the same, still delicious, just different.

Apparently Garrisons baked goods are still a big seller with the ordinary world, as are his apples. Mr. Garrison grows the best Ruby McIntosh apples anywhere around. Oh and of course there’s always fresh apple cider, hot or cold.

Anyway, Mr. Garrison’s property is located smack-dab in the middle between our secret community and the outside world. Long before the hex was put into place The Garrison’s and Breakstones became fast friends In a unexpected way.

One day Mr. Garrisons 8 year old daughter Pamela was out playing in the woods and got lost. She got so turned around she gave up and sat down on a soft patch of grass at the feet of an old oak tree and began to cry.

Fabian, then age 11 just happened to be out playing in the same woods at the same time hunting for ferrets when he heard someone crying. Curious to know who was crying and why he decided to follow the sobbing until he found a young girl sitting alone on the ground up against an old oak tree crying her little eyes out.

“Hey, are you okay?” asked Fabian.” Pamela looked up with the most beautiful blue eyes he’d  ever seen. Pamela answered back with tear filled sobs. “no, not really,” I’m affraid i’m lost.

“Well that was it!” Fabian was smitten with cupids arrow. It was love at first sight— Well for Fabian anyway. The two kids Introduced themselves and then Fabian helped Pamela find her way back home. The two talked the entire walk and Instantly became best friends from that day on.
_______________

Pg 3

Being that the Garrisons are not witches, it is uncommon for anyone from the Patch to form any kind of acquaintances with the ordinary people, let alone friendship. Life is funny sometimes some things are just meant to be and an unusual bond was formed. Over time the Breakstones and Garrisons upgraded their friendship to family and are the only ordinary people that know about the Patch and our way of life. As far as we know anyway.

Well kids grow up as they do and Fabian and Pamela’s friendship blossomed, developing into romance and the two have been dating for years ever since. Our father even gave Mr. Garrison, 10 acres of our land a fews years back so he could grow his business, which is why his property in smack-dab in the middle between our world and theirs.

Raven and I made it to Garrisons in less than 10 minutes. We see Ryder packing up apples into crates for market. He comes by every day to lend a hand. Mr. Garrison is up their in age.

Ryder was busy and hadn’t noticed our arrival. So Raven takes full advantage of this opportunity and snuck up behind Ryder undetected or so she thought then stepped up on an empty crate that just happened to be in the right place at the right time. On her tippy toes now, Raven wraps her little hands around Ryder’s eyes and whispers in his ear “Guess who?”
Ryder plays along “Um-Lets see, are you,
Old-lady Murdock?”
“Noooo— !” guess again she urges while giggling. “Are you, hmm, let's see,” are you “Nancy know-it-all?!”
“No-no-no silly, it's me, Wavy Ravy she said then laughed, while jumping down off the crate and hugs her big brother tight.
“Oh it’s you!” you little gerbil, said Ryder and hugs Raven back.

"So what brings you two ladies here?” asks Ryder, I bet it has something to do with apple pies, he said with a smirk!”
“Yup that’s right," said Raven, we’re here for apples and some leaves for our scarecrows. “And maybe a pumpkin or two,” I added.
“Getting started on those pies already?
eh Blake? "Yup, sure am little brother.”

Raven and I spent about 30 minutes collecting apples and leaves. We picked out a few pumpkins as well, and grabbed an 8 pack of pumpkin & apple fritters for breakfast tomorrow morning.
“Hey Blake?” Yeah? Raven, do we have time for a hayride? “I’m afraid not kiddo” not this time we need to get home and start dinner. “Please sis?” just a quick ride. “No not today Raven, it seems the day has gotten away from us. It’s already 3:45pm we need to start walking home you have school tomorrow amd we have a story to finish, remember? “Oh yeah that’s right!” answered Raven, we're reading Narnia, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, book one and it’s my turn to read said Ravy with excitement & anticipation.
Just so you know, there are 8 children in our immediate family starting with Fabian, then comes me, then Michael, then Rocky & Velvet, then Delilah, and of course Ryder, and last but certainly not least Raven.

To be continued…

Raven and I took a detour down Echo lane to Wicked Wanda's place before going home. Wanda’s family of 11 farm mandrake and cotton. They make and sell witch apparel and farm and brew mandrake for potions. I wanted to give Wanda the Crystal, I found earlier. I knew Wanda would want it. I also wanted to check the status of my recent order. But nobody was home. So I walked over to the barn and grabbed the black marker from the animal rotation grease board that’s nailed to the side of the the barn, and scribbled a note.

Dear Wanda, I found a sapphire crystal during my travels today and wanted you to have it.
Blake

I then placed the crystal on the ledge of the grease board and tell Raven lets go home.
Before I even got one foot in front of the other a powerful bolt of heat shot through my blood. I began to see silver stars in front of my eyes and my heart was beating so fast I thought it was gonna implode right inside of me. Feeling dizy and like I’m about to faint, I took a quick seat on the ground and laid down for a bit to calm myself down.
