The Swim Back

Forever the son of my father
Another day spent waiting on the wake
Waiting in the shadow
Of something I am not to be
Or something I am left to feel
Forever I swim on
My spirit is not of science
I will remain ineffable in silence
So close now to what is not mine
But hold not the candle to my borrowed flame
No perfection remains my friend
Together we swim on
I saved not for the swim back
You saved only for me
But home and back are not the same it seems
Lay to rest in the sky, if you can tonight
Shine gold, shine bright
The feather you were, you swim in the stars
I will watch as your heart ignites.
