Adrift, Again
I felt your spirit leave my body that night,
And I knew for all my worth that you were
never to return to the fold,
Never again the binding ghost,
Pervadingly tacit, lust forthright.
A troubled appendage released from time,
Eight bells sounding, thus noontide,
Spectral in its promises,
Came to meet us violently,
Spilling forth like so many lakes
upon a canvas already wet with rain.
And waters receding, shore exposed,
I found myself a single breath,
Sputtered and sallow, pale like death,
Anchored tightly to yestern thought,...
And I knew for all my worth that you were

Ghosting
The night you left
I took you in, sip after sip,
Built a haunted manor in my heart
to house your spirit crumbs,
And there I lived.
The night you left
I spent in letter-lost daze,
Cogs ethereal turning about,
But no hour was chimed
as to sleep I slipped.
The night you left
a mirror lay on the bed,
but my reflections had ceased,
I suppose you held a key
set beneath your skin.
The night you left
the door beckoned to pull,
Instead I dived, fear ran cold,
Evicted you drifted,
A dream on call.

Unguard
This song I'd never known, but heard a thousand times over
through familiar echoes, distant though they were,
A path crossing at such a predictable angle,
A friendly smile over the counter of observable space,
Sensibilities suggest that perhaps, contact sustained,
Things could boil and churn to our liking, and find us alone in time due,
But the waiting is like a wildfire at rest,
Tearing at forests in the satisfaction of dreams while the world carries on,
The need for now can ruin the soundest foundations,
Shake morals that perhaps should have never...

Hidden Moon
Scared, the life you led, alone,
Drying tears so long past gone,
For when there was no second chances,
Just vacant songs guarding fears,
Safety in a stray, ghosted thought,
A formal dance with your former heart,
Breaking stride was always yours,
Mine, the love, you never lost,
Here you come, and then you go,
Another wave of silenced blows,
Left of centre, dressed in red,
A deadly gait I'd never known,
I struggle with sleep, fraught
with belief, departed and weak,
Sound, it keeps even when late,
My head, so filled and...

Of the People
The green was never there, we'd caught in glimpse our amity,
There was power in association, because we couldn't imagine the minute
we'd take the easy path to love, and breathe when we had the chance.
Dancing notes of ecstasy through someone else's eyes, stolen time,
Little did I know, and hardly a shred more now.

Keepsakes
Written, if not worth the paper,
A rainy day, forgiving saviour,
It simply left me sating or,
In the very least, fusillading for
thin folds to meet at stronger edges,
Creating new shapes with old connections;
To give you gauge on darker days and
brighten the corners that shadows stayed.
Days I’ll have and days I’ve known
the sound it makes when hearts let go,
The smiles you’ll fake when mountains move,
Troubled eyes lead to twisted truths,
But trust in me or let it fade,
and don’t hold tight like fiction’s maid.
Let lying words lie,...

This Epoch
I am an afterthought
to hold the place of desire,
To take the pain of loss
and subside the restless heart,
The want for a reason,
A leftover sense of trust
residing in unbridled youth.
Her fate is not on my hands,
Yet I am tied to invariable thoughts,
And sent tumbling towards
vain attempts at garish songs,
To play out an aging cast
as they dream, then and there,
Beautiful and so close to gone.
The end is asleep and unwritten,
One look is never enough and I
torture myself more than required,
Likeness does not...

The reason I hide behind
the false pretences
of a midnight kiss,
Is that I couldn’t wait
to again sense
the dangerous frame
I’ve been placed in
through sidelong glances,
Traced, erotic,
Further realized under stars,
Mixed with sweat and then,
Tears streak faces far too often
these days.
I’d have you as you are
now, and later when the malaise
settles its tired head
in your weathered hands,
Remind and renew a missive
written just as
straps melted from your shoulders.
We will have no end, ...

Twenty-one years of confusion,
Twenty-one of bliss,
Twenty-one cold years spent
trying to warm a frozen pair of hands,
Spent in love, and living in shoals
that were sure to drag me under but
never quite made the final stroke.
Twenty-one years born in a heart
that could scarcely carry its own weight,
Twenty-one years of false salvos,
Reaching out to warm bodies with heads
just as muddled and lost as a secret held
at my own gate, veritable, awake.

Alight
Oh my love, down there below,
A scent of roses here, lost gold,
The thoughts I held were falsities,
though truth does float in a peculiar way
around your mouth, around your eyes,
A river of those who've come before.
I revel in your simple sense of purity,
Though spirits play beneath, he knows,
And lets it go for higher ground.
The flood destroys in smaller strokes,
Endure instead, a salient refuge,
I could but burn with pride or desire.
Over thoughts, over churning thoughts,
Finished, spectacular, a work of art.

Phenomena
Trenches of depths unreachable
separate us,
by velocity unchained I move,
since before you were gone
I was seasons behind,
and wore it white and wounded,
created in little volleys,
found like the mantle of doubt
splayed; “wide-eyed animal,”
you said,
and it gave you away,
soon drained, less grave,
reality bled within your trusting
eyes.
The walls of Jericho
balanced in frame,
we tried to forget
time and place, the gates aflame,
and you were quiet,
so silent,
like life was distant and grand
and sentenced...

Casio keys,
A falsetto mess,
Crying women
fill the streets;
I could never breathe,
While winter fears its rest.
I mourn the death of
myself, and the world,
From poisoned ideals
and expired religions,
Traditions of a nation
left awake at night.
The variations on my heart,
A new sentimentality
with old creaking joints,
They sold us the names
of our daughters,
And burned pictures of
happier times;
Buried truth in
elided lives and
these faceless
recreation myths.
A small frame hung at dawn,...
