Just exercise some responsibility

I am not one to put a damper on a party
you want to prance, sing, hang with folk
go ahead and knock yourself out
only one thing I ask  
 
You see beyond the history which  
didn't include people of color
two things I implore you to consider  
as you drown yourself in spirits and what not
 
You see some of us have pets
that shiver and shake when you blast fireworks
talk about traumatic stress
their ears are subjected to things we don't hear
 
Second my part of the country is quite dry
rainfall has been off for successive years
large parcels of land are dry
a disaster waiting to happen
 
Fire and dry brush don't mix
and I get tired of seeing territory burnt  
from the San Bernardino Forest to Santa Barbara  
to what was once green Oregon  
 
So for the creatures from four legs to two or even none
the pristine natural wonders
to even the more modern creations  
that don't fare well when burnt  
 
I just say RESPONSIBILITY WHAT A CONCEPT!
