Why sure,
have whatever you want
ya'll are free to choose,
just make sure to pay for it all before you leave.
How your ancestors must weep
for when they sold their lives
to keep their neighbours free
and noble was the land,
how truly noble,
that lost land of the free.

Reading listed for two reasons:
1. I heard your voice say y’all in my head and it amused me enough to audibly laugh in the middle of Costa.
2. There’s this beautiful element of dry wit in this that I just totally love. It’s blunt, and hammers home perfectly all the stuff we do eternally take for granted, never thinking of how it got here. Where it came from. Where it will go.

When I was young, the USA represented travel and tall things, due to visiting cousins amongst skyscrapers. At sort of late-teens to early twenties, I seemed to pick up the bad vice of seeing USA as nothing but idiots; and having smug satisfaction in being British with our long faded empire.
Now, I think I have matured enough, and watched the LOTR extended version, to form the idea of modern USA being shit; yet hoping that the right might of WW2 will rear its head again, and the Eagles will make USA great again. Not by going backwards, but by re-embracing old American values in modern and new settings; having undeniable energy and goodness - not selfishness and ignorance.
Mini-thesis over. My way of saying ta very much for the reading list add. I almost went with 'you all' but ya'll in the stereotype [sweet, laid-back] southern-drawl seemed to fit better.
