Forth (NaPoWriMo 2022 #12)
I dislike
the habit
of looking back,
and finding solace
only in nostalgia
and in wistful memory
of the past.
Futile desperation
retracing faded steps,
glorifying the past
and scorning the present.
I have a hard enough time
keeping up,
as naturally for me
timing is off
and one step behind
in a different dance.
The present
is not always pretty
or progress
an actual advancement,
but time marches on.
So too will all
the good and evil
of the moment
and these days
be consigned to the past,
or unearthed
by favoured reminiscing
and students of history.
Tomorrow brings hope,
not for a yesterday reborn
but a new sunrise
and sea of possibilities.
