Primal Voice / Ursprüngliche Stimme (NaPoWriMo 2022 #8)
You fill a place in me
with your Größe
that others cant match.
A space in my soul
that only your Wörter
connects with.
The sounds so perfectly
expressing Sein
in pure succinctness.
Aggression, despair, bitterness, comedy;
captured at the right Zeit
to convey the feelings.
Because although English
is my native tongue,
it seems my primal
speaks in Deutsch.
-Das ist sehr gut,
sehr gut sogar.

Entry 8 for NaPoWriMo 2022. Rammstein has only been a recent addition to my soul's soundtrack, but damn, do they have such presence there. Posted here out of order because we can't have anything perfect and logical!

My Husband shouts at me because literally everything is German now. Sometimes I mutter it under my breath when I’m out and about so I’m not understood easily 😂
It’s such a beautiful language. A dear friend of mine is German (and also a phenomenal stand up poet in his own language) and if you heard his German performance pieces it just sounds so lyrical and poignant. Not harsh at all.
(By the way… Till writes poetry! His books are an interesting read if you can be bothered to translate. Which I can. )

It seems a quirk of fate that I chose to learn German at school and learnt enough to at least have some grasp of the language. Though I'd never admit to any real depth of knowledge; translate does the work for me.
Yet for all that, the Rammstein songs I like fill a hole that other songs do not quite fit.

I love it when I come across snippets of other languages in English poems... especially when (like here) I can understand them. Brilliant! I studied German for three years at school, and French for seven, but am now in LOVE with Italian and feel that I can express myself better in Italian/ French sometimes. Sadly, my German has lapsed badly!

My smattering of French, German and Japanese have faded in time, but retain just enough to spurt a strange phrase, and keep the door to the language open enough if I ever want to revisit.
