remember that day
when your son was born!
joy!
a robust healthy boy!
celebrate!
a question for the proud parents:
is your son circumcised?
if you answered ‘no’
stop reading here
if you answered ‘yes’
there are a few more questions
you should ask yourself
did you do everything you could
to protect your baby boy
from pain and suffering?
did you do everything in your power
to insure his physical
and emotional health?
circumcision is
amputation of up to half of the skin
of your son’s penis
did you give permission for the surgery?
was there a life-threatening
medical problem that necessitated amputation?
was it done as a ritual mutilation to identify him
as a member of your religious tribe?
was it cosmetic surgery so that he
would look like daddy?
were you pressured by
family
clergy
physician?
were you uninformed?
embarrassed to discuss it
because it was about his sexual organ?
didn’t think about it
because you thought it was no big deal?
you allowed grievous harm to
your innocent defenseless boy
you facilitated amputation of a
healthy functional part of your son’s body
without his consent
why would you do that
to your helpless son?
you chose to pay someone
(directly or indirectly)
to amputate sensitive parts
of your sons healthy body
don’t you have a duty as a parent
to protect your child from harm?
it may have been done without anesthetic
most likely no pain reliever was given
during healing
if someone wanted to amputate
(without his consent)
part of a man’s penis without anesthesia?
that is what was done
to your precious son
do you have a
clear conscience?
do you feel
guilt or compassion?
will you discuss it
with your son?
or pretend
it didn’t happen?
the doctor who
mutilated your son’s penis
committed assault and battery
will you discuss it with them?
if medical necessity and all benefits and risks
were not clearly explained by the physician
then you were mislead
will you discuss it with them?
if you consented to amputation
of the sensitive protective
skin of your boy’s penis
then you are complicit
your boy may not remember
your betrayal (consciously)
or realize that he was mutilated
(with your permission)
do you think that you
should be held accountable?
do you think the doctor
should be held accountable?
do you think the medical facility that
advocated supported and profited from it
should be held accountable?
do you think the legislators
law enforcement and the judiciary
should be held accountable?
will you own up to it?
will you learn more about it?
will you pursue legal action?
will you become an activist?

turn on the TV

My poet that small procedure to a male child is an orthodox practice in the Bible. Circumcision has become sort of a rite of passage of removing a male child or even some male adult’s foreskin. Be advised in the Jewish culture this ritual takes place eight days after birth. In addition, God first ordained circumcision in the book of Genesis, I do believe, when he made an everlasting agreement with Abraham.
Each parent to its own, is all I can say... I admire this musing because it raises more questions than answers.

That 'small procedure" is amputation of healthy sensitive tissue on the male body, permanently depriving a boy and the man he becomes from sensual pleasure for his entire life, as well as putting him at risk for complications including the possibility of death.
Just because it was done in the past by people who believe in religious folklore, does not make it acceptable now in the 21st century United States.
If it was done to an adult who has chosen to follow a particular religion, understands the risks and benefits and consents, it not a problem. If it is done to an infant who cannot understand and therefore cannot give consent, it is assault and battery.
Most 'civilized' countries have banned the practice except for cases of legitimate medical necessity. There are some Jews that do not practice infant genital mutilation, but use an alternate non harmful non painful ritual to symbolize their belief.

I will always say the parent(s) should make that private decision, however, medically speaking, an adult male seem to get a lot of infection underneath that foreskin when not circumcised, and regarding the Jewish brit milah ritual, and I can only speak from an orthodox Jew’s standpoint. In this day and time, it does not surprise me when it comes to traditions being deferred or conformed due to older religion beliefs

Infant genital cutting is wrong in many ways.
It is an elective procedure (by choice, not for medical necessity).
To perform a procedure that removes healthy tissue, and causes short and long term physical and emotional harm in a person who can not understand the risks and benefits is unethical.
Healthy infants should be left intact until they reach the age of consent, when they are capable of making an informed choice.
As adults, some men would choose not to be circumcised even if they are jewish. If their foreskin was amputated in infancy, they have been deprived of that choice. To mark an infant boy as a jew irreversibly, a boy who may or may not choose, as an adult, to follow the jewish faith is a violation of his freedom of choice and his violation of his right to freedom from religion.

There are some instances where a circumcision is more prone and should be performed and not in any bipartisan manner such as religion or from society peer pressure and that is in the event if an infant is born with phimosis (tight foreskin) usually a male would grow out of it... at times it can/will cause minor problems for an infant, such as difficult urinating and in some cases, swelling...
As I sated in my previous comment, having a male circumcised it is up to the parent(s) to make that final decision

When I saw the title I thought it was about a vasectomy ('the snip' I have so often heard it called).
Glad that St Paul and his side won the day against the 'need' for Christians to be circumcised (when one reads of the bitter arguments that must have gone on, judging from some of his Epistles) otherwise we'd hear street preachers etc calling not 'Are you saved?' but 'Are you circumcised?'. Although it is a Jewish 'must have' note that Moses their lawgiver was never circumcised (though his son was by the hand of Zipporah, Moses' wife).
