FRESH VIEW
Four years since I’ve
Written things down
Took a break
Thinking is so staticky lately
I used to be able to write in my sleep
Or in a daze, or in haste
Now the words don’t even come
I guess I’ve lost my conditioning
I really need a training sesh
A fresh view for all of you
Some time to really think
About my story
I’ve changed
Bet it’ll be worth it
I refuse to post my old poems
I’ve been here before
Starting over
It’s not fair
Follow me grow
I’m going to relearn
This ain’t shit!
When you read poetry you’re
Supposed to feel all my senses
These words suck
It’s like I’ve lost all my communication
I need you to vibe
When you read my life
Words to relate to
A place that’s safe
For me and you
Brainstorming
Repeating in my mind
“Write what you know”, “write what you know”, “don’t forget to write what you know”, “please don’t give up”
A friend asked me recently
“What will you be writing about?”
I wrote a somewhat nonchalant response
I won’t—I never write about what I know
Because what I know is nothing
Surprising, or admirable, or thought provoking
Maybe it’s more like beautiful
I think I have the courage to say
I left myself those years ago
To be a for realz young mommy
An always mama’s got me
Not to be boring, but I’m
Going to be the mom
I wanna be.
