Time and the Weight of Memories
Another year gone!
Time is flying by fast!
It seems to be going by faster!
But why?
I often find myself asking this question
I know I’m not the only one
Every single year
“Time is of the essence”
Deadlines, timelines, busy agendas
Inner circadian rhythms work tirelessly
Keeping pace with the clock
Day in
Day out
And getting older
It seems to accelerate
The weight of memories gets heavier
Becoming more dense
The recollection of a first kiss
First love
Tears shed
Laughter
Friends
Photographs
Sounds
Words
They come back in a flash like
Hearing my newborn’s cry
A coo
Holding a tiny hand
A laugh
A first step
Watching them grow
Keeping time
But in the mind time moves at a different speed
Some memories fall into the subconscious
Only to resurface
When triggered by music or poetry
By words
And there
Souls become immortal, light and timeless

That's exactly what it feels like! Auld Lang Syne gets me every time! Happiest of 2022, Wally! May it be blessed and prosperous with all things that truly matter! <3

Honoria, thank you for the RL.
We store so many memories in our brains, it's wonderful to recall certain things whenever we eat something or listening to a specific song. Glad you had a nice recollection of something.
Happy New Year to you too.

All the new year's best, your way Walter!!
Your observations hit home and strike a chord. I find that the aging process brings with it the deep sense of how fast it all really does fly by .... cherish it, while you can!
I really enjoyed reading, terrific work!

Blue, thank you for your comment and your RL addition.
I believe that aging with grace is something I long to achieve, and for that I have to be appreciative of everything in the past (both good and bad).
For me, it's like that quote "once you're over the hill, you pick up speed".
Hope you had a great New Years.
