I Remember

I remember when I would smile all day long.
After any and every moment with you.
I remember when my feelings were so strong.
Even with the horrible things you'd do.

One moment you'd be flirting and laughing.
Happy with life and even happier with me.
The next moment you'd be cruel and yelling.
Saying everything you could until I'd bleed.

Then you'd twist it and say everything was my fault.
I did you wrong and I hurt you.
Everything was so confusing; I soon became lost.
I didn't know what to say or do.

I wanted to fix you, but I wouldn't break myself.
I remember walking away; never to return.
It was the only thing to spare my mental health.
It was an important lesson I needed to learn.
