A Poem

I can hear your towered knelling
Through the silence you think I am
Reverberations smudged by distance
Meanings buried in sham

Just a pebble cast into a pool
The splash then rippling on
Weight lost beneath the surface
Til once more it spreads out calm

*

I've watched fish darting in the stream
A flashing silver sheen
I've watched hawks circling way on high
Too far to hear their cry

In the silence I'm free
I can hear myself breath

A leaf makes no sound when it lets go
To fall swirling, drifting, lazy, slow
To gently embrace the ground below
And gather russet before the snows

I am at peace
My silence speaks
