Tattooed Hands
Rodin spent days
months
years
Perfecting the rough arches of the male hands
and yet I stare at yours
understanding his obsession to capture their strength
Yours provoke me
with what they hold
They grab me
clutching at my thoughts
clenching my dignity
They suffocate me
The power I gave them deepens the correlation between your words and your fingertips
why
from such rugged hands
flows poetry that whispers softness
I contemplate every word you write me
trying to avoid the marks your nails leave on my skin

Wow, am I happy that I stumbled upon this golden nugget of pure unabashed truth and volcanic hot honesty. My thoughts wander from adoration to desire to want of submission. Or perhaps just coveting the immense essence or powerful draw that words create and hold our hearts in their grasp.... I really loved this piece and deeply appreciate your poetic voice, here.
Thank you so much for sharing with us 🙏🏻

Well that's exciting in itself! I will have to watch it when it comes out. I do like Tom Hardy :)
I haven't been to Cardiff in ages but it really is beautiful!

I love the beautifully courageous vulnerability of giving from such depth of heart in your write, as well as the minimal imagery of his hands conveying so much of your concept of him. Gorgeous work.

It is my pleasure and honor, always. 💖🙏
I was just describing a bit of my writing philosophy in a critique thusly:
I tend to exercise economy in my writing when it comes to rhymes, alliterative mostly, for flow and more traditional end line rhymes perhaps for emphasis, perhaps at the end of the write, as a nod to the cyclic nature of things.
As I travel around, I sometimes feel a bit haunted by the fact that we are living in the world, cities, towns, homes, of those who've gone before us, back to the ashes and dust, we walk in their shoes and stand on the shoulders of their accomplishments. I try to let that shadow fall across my writing in various ways, little snatches of well known verse, little nods to the classics.

Those severed hands don't look beautiful.
They just are too realistic and seem like there's a missing body or bodies that belong to them.
It is shocking and admirable art.

Wow, Mucky Waters (may I call you Mucky 😁)
This piece is a wonderful fascination. Your flow is beautiful and your language captivating. I've often read, form artists, that hands are some of the hardest parts of our anatomy to capture. This passage really struck me as an illustration of how hands can be such a powerful symbolism of emotion,
"They grab me
clutching at my thoughts
clenching my dignity "
Bravissima, dear poet and welcome to DUP❣🌹
Oh and perfect image...haunting actually

The hands that may be rough and tough, but when they touch we feel loved. The same hands can tear apart the hope and dreams. Beautifully worded with the connotation of hands and question they answer of an innocent mind and wandering dreams.

I started off remembering when I first heard McCartney's "Picasso's Last Words", but this write is much more personal. Very much enjoyed the juxtaposition weaved in the poem.

I have, what I can only describe as an obsession, with hands. I don’t know what it is but I find them endlessly fascinating. They can just communicate so much. So I was elated to read a poem all about them and their beauty.
Thank you for sharing this.

Hoi hoi
Hope this finds you well.
If you are interested in Rodin’s hands and feet, maybe you’ll want to read about Camille Claudel. The majority of the hands and feet, attributed to Rodin, were made by her.
Having said that, I love this poem of yours. A very nice piece of work!!!
Kind regards, Gus

Glad I found this piece,
I know you asked for friendly feed back, but I think you can cut out
The
“and yet”
Fro
Your 5th line
I think blending in the artists “obsession” with your own works better.
Other than that reading list worthy!

Hoi hoi
Sorry for my being a bit late.
Glad I came across this very nice piece of work!
I hope you don’t mind if I put forward some extra info?
Most hands and feet, used by Rodin, were in fact made by Camille Claudel.
There were beautiful expositions of her work, Rodin hugely benefitted from that. Please check out her story.
But your poem and photo are beautiful. Thank you for posting.
Kind regards, Gus

I found myself glued to the way you use metaphors. Favorite parts:
"from such rugged hands
flows poetry that whispers softness
I contemplate every word you write me
trying to avoid the marks your nails leave on my skin "
