Haberdashery

gazing over crescent moon spectacles
measuring tape as my lapel

he's looking quite smart with a striped tie
wing-tip shoes shined by the boy at the station
drops some silver in his jar

bowler hat pulled over one eye
watching the pedestrians walking by
studying their faces

a carnation pressed in his binder
pinned back like a butterflies wing

cufflinks glint like gemstones
sparkling young ladies eyes
dancing under carousel

as the calliope grinds carnival songs
hummed in the haberdashery
