BEFORE THE FALL

I remember that he used to beat on you
I was only a kid; what the hell could I do?
The onus was on you to end that bullshit
Instead, it was on me that you chose to hit

I remember it as if it happened yesterday
Guess traumatic thoughts never go away
They stay tethered & festster until they're hard
Causing physical, mental and emotional scars

But hey, at least they erect poetic bars to write
There's always a bright side after all, right?
Life's fights and struggles are never-ending
Acting alright, in other's sights, is just pretending

Deceiving to the naked eye to what lies inside
As we keep on grooving and living life in stride
Masculine pride won't allow me to show it all
Yet, it's said that there's pride before the fall
