Prejudice

"I'll never understand..."

Well why don't you think on it
Humans
Animals alike
We're deeply coded

It's genetic
To set parameters
As to what is safe
What is not

It can be doctored by predisposition
It could be deposited on the spot

Every time you saw some shit
Taught rhetoric by your parents
There were many
Infinite links
Connected to that pink
Where danger becomes apparent

We induce bioreactions
To triggers like simple words
So we judge a man's soul
By his cloth
The God for which he yearns

We make assumptions
Taught to us from the table
And a danger they become
A true reaction to a fable

So you don't know why
There's a constant struggle
We must simply not ignore
But acknowledge where we are troubled

All are prejudiced to certain things
STFU if you claim you're not
It's a natural reaction
Embedded when we were mere bacteria speckled dots

There is fear in every Animal
Even those close in kind
Some live together in harmony
Others flee at the sight
In good mind

It's survival
We're just cursed as sentient beings
Associating envy, lust, and hate driven ramblings

Cause we think too much
About that which have no relation
Bring some devastating force that has nothing to do with preservation

Why do judgements exist?
I'll tell you why
It's simple:
It's evolution infected by the mind.

Author's Note
It's just our job to acknowledge where we have deficits. It's the first step to addressing the source and redirecting your focus to reshape how you think. There was a Yale study on sexism, where feminist and history professors, male and female, who were known for their takes on equal rights, were tested by being shown pictures. theyd then select the option man or woman quickly. Only one out of ten passed the test, and he was male. They were all shocked by the results. It may be another college as I learned of this over 10 years ago, but Im too lazy to look it up lol. I remember the takeaway of the study to write this poem, though: the first combat to prejudice is acknowledging you are animal at your simplest, human at your best. Ignoring the self only makes you part of the systemic problem
