Angel of Death (Holy Kiss)

Take my hand, don’t be afraid
I’m just a child with ancient eyes
Nothing of you escapes my sight
I escort you from life to death

It’s time to leave this place
You know you must move on
The years have been long
Each moment endured so much

See all the sorrow and grief
your heart carried far too long
Let it fall away from your soul
be embraced with love instead

If there is pain it will be swift
You will barely feel a thing
The life you lived promised
death delivered by a holy kiss

Take a breath, then let it go
Your soul leaves your body behind
Look ahead, for there awaits you
remembered ones who love you most

They’d gone ahead, you see
preparing to sing you to sleep
They wait, yearning for you
Go to them and live forever

Author's Note
Inspired by MCR's 'The Light Behind Your Eyes' and my own personal beliefs and story. My father used to call me 'Angel of Death' as a girl, and in Kabbalah the Angel is covered in eyes because nothing escapes their sight. In addition, it is said that the most painless form of dying is 'neshikah' - a holy kiss, where the soul is taken from the body as is a strand of hair from milk. Finally, so that one isn't so tempted to look back, it is said their ancestors wait to greet their soul as it leaves the body so they don't leave this life alone.
