Image for the poem Thunderous Silence

Thunderous Silence

only the hearts beat
sounding off thunderous guns
fired into the setting sun

with powder burns on your fingers
thumbscrew turned, teardrops are falling
like the storm that's calling

marching across the bloody moors
crossing the rivers we march
round-head uniforms clean with starch

only a heart sounds like thunder
only a mirror breaks when plundered
through the storm we sunder

striking our enemies at their core
rushed the mainland and the shore
recoiled like a serpent strikes

we survive her venomous bite
only broken hearts make us beautiful
as thunderous silence calls across the moors
