human nature

 
I covet the beauty of nature
my eyes seek her wonder
I take her inside myself
she gives me succor
peace enough to sustain me
with her I know the world is still good

I look away from humanity
the ugly truth of it offends
I don't want to believe we are wicked
the facts are before me
I deny the truth knowing some are good some of the time

I look at the tulip tree outside
she is ready to bloom
a wedding bouquet in promise

I will keep my vows
