one duel straw'd strawberry milkshake and other tales...
Daddy would do his favorited
down pat impressive
swivel hip'd N' sing of
"Love me Tender"
or "Teddy Bear "
From as far back
as my little devoted mind
can unfurl and find
Cherished so,
and proudly in tempo;
those sing-a-longs with him
and The King—were everything
An Elvis's swagger,
never appeared any better—
Oh how those repeated flashbacks prevail,
to leave such indelible,
influential marks;
He'd constant remind
of just how slick and cool
those 50's styled diners supplied
jukeboxes pon tableside,
tunes you select (B12) for a baddest boy croon
or to savour one duel straw'd
milkshake for two
~strawberry, of course~
To meet as a high school group
or bring a date to snuggle deep
in a couples only 'makeout' booth;
Burgers were so gooey cheesy,
fries were salted in no cares aplenty
and the innocence of Elvis's "Teddy Bear
STILL it clings so very viscerally,
throughout all the ambiance'd
grease scented air
"Order Up!"
... will alway remind,
Oh those memories, vivid and clear...

My dad loved The King and I was raised listening. (and singing along) I too, became a huge fan. If there was one thing dad loved more than music and Elvis, it was a 'greasy spoon.' ESPECIALLY, if they reminded him of being a kid. This pic is my BF and I in 1999 sitting at the killer diner across the street from Graceland. Tableside jukeboxes and everything, Pure retro perfection. I called dad from the payphone (yes, that's what I said) at the gas station that wasn't far away, to regale my experience, of course he snort laughed almost non stop during my "spinning". just an awesome memory. I feel like I've been raised to appreciate and love these types of diners. A greasy spoon lover, was always bound to be part of my legacy..... lol

Those memories and looks back are totally powerful, for sure. I feel connected to my dad and miss him so very much in a place like a diner. Ty for reading, sharing and all your awesome support. I am humbled by your list add and appreciate you deeply

I often like to remember my dad with pieces on DU... he was hysterical when he wasn't being the hard-ass remanent of former Marine he was... lol

You have really captured the nostalgia, the essence of happy memories shared with the ones close to you, like a photographs with words. It tugs at the heart and makes us smile, listening to all those little recollections of your younger self, a time machine of sorts, with vivid bright colors, walking us through fun and happy times.

I remember those tableside jukeboxes in some older places that were vintage dives with extra greasy food. It was fun to flip through the selections with greasy fingers and pick a song to blast. What a great memory. It took forever to hear our number called, but the jukebox made it worthwhile. Its amazing that you have such a real picture even with food, great addition :)
