Soul Of The Woods
To pluck the strings of wooded bliss,
I only know to summon this:
from ev'ry dale and crested tree
upon which lands each bird let free.
There -- a reason to sing and live
wherein, a song my heart can give
and ever true from me to you,
a friend once had not joy as you:
My pathless woods, my one true home --
to Thee I give my only poem.
Here, my last once as my first
within a past for better or worse.
Roaming free within your care
always to be and forever there;
fed as creatures well sustained
at every turn, my will be tamed.
But never will I walk away --
this everlasting soul will play
upon these strings, your music wild
as I, your never aging child.
.....

Really lovely tribute to your friend. I wondered at the beginning if inspiration was drawn from Lord Bryon, as it has a certain tone and imagery to it. Your rhyme scheme is divine. It flows so well. I did not have the pleasure of knowing Soul, but I hope that he has found peace in his great sleep. He obvious touched many here at DU.

I was featured in the same poetcast as him, so I listened to his interview again and read some of his work to get an idea of what to write. I loved that little poem by Byron so I came up with something, just missed the comp by a day or two but I posted it anyway. I was also inspired by several other member tributes to Souladareatease, I'll put the links below, there could be others out there I didn't read also. I'm so glad you liked this, thanks so much for the nice comment :)

A stunning write, PR. Please feel free to post it in the comp as well, despite it being closed. It would be nice to keep them altogether regardless.

There was such a youthfulness and simplicity to the messages in Lord Byron's poems even through the wordiness. His simple pleasures, like a walk in the woods were an inspiration for this. I'm so glad you liked it, thanks so much for the comment and RL add :)

Utterly beautiful. You've done him such justice here. I am kind of overwhelmed and at a loss. His essence was deeply within the woods and the birds upon the boughs, which he loved so much. Your metaphors are subtle and yet purposeful and meaningful. Thank you for using your amazing talent and heart to make this tribute to our friend. 💖🎶🙏

I got really sad listening to Soul's interview and reading some of his poems because he was so full of life and talent. Lord Byron died young, so all his poems were written from a young man's perspective, I wanted to add that lively touch to this. It was really my pleasure to write this, I'm so glad you liked it and were touched. It's amazing how much can change in one year, this past one especially. I listened to some of his music on his YouTube and loved it, I didn't see birds but there was a nature images one, thanks for the link 💕:)
