What the funk? (blues & jazz)
my heart's desire...
she beats a mean beat;
every pound in my chest
is another secret that reverberates
a cacophony of beating pitter patter
becomes a heartbeat of a jazz infused
swing-styled scatting scatter
another beat~ Billie Holiday croons
still another ~ Armstrong's cornet looms
pulse quickens in innocent shivers
whilst Thelonious Monk's piano delivers
or Miles Davis to lead a swing band
as his trumpet is blowing jams
The beating becomes incessant
like the stylings of Coltrane or George Clinton
with a P-Funk - only kinda rhythm
My innermost soundtrack
of jazzy blues, funky, fuck fusion
Songs that beat or grind every other beat,
a certain groove and funk
from one desperate beating heart to another
in an amused, free abandonment of
love, sex, desire, pain
that spills forth and is accentuated
by a very particular brand
of love with no shame
I am your 45 minute sweaty jazz fuck fusion.

Your comments almost had me in my closet getting myself all dolled-up with my best (and tightest) perfect little black dress, with a slight swing vibe but still a tad beatnik too... hair styled to perfection, and not moving an inch, Spot on makeup with killer red lips, perhaps black satin gloves (up to my elbows) and a cigarette on a long black cigarette holder..... Yes, it's true, I absolutely listen and love the blues and jazz.....It's not all that I listen to, but it has a soft spot in my heart, for some reason... always has. Lady Day is probably my biggest blues muse...there's something about her voice..... Damn, I'm transported. When I read your comment, I was surprised for a second, then realized, OF COURSE blues feeds your soul...

I love that you covered the jazz greats and some of the later era of 70s, music. There is so much history and emotion behind it all, you can't help but be transported to a time and place where our hearts thoroughly partake in the joy of music.
