In that post I mentioned three lessons: enlightenment is not what we thought, meditation is not good for everything and religious corruption is universal. Outside of ethnic enclaves, Buddhism is really quite new in the West. Even the word "Buddhism" itself -- a term coined by 19th century European scholars to categorize it as a world religion along with other "isms" -- is not quite right. There is no such word "Buddhism" in Buddhism. The Buddha himself used the word marga, which simply means "path." Buddhism is a wisdom path, a long, difficult, and complex journey. Buddhism is perhaps the world's only unadulterated religion, a path that accepts life for what life is. It is a lot deeper than the stoner culture perceives it to be.
well, 'Buddhism' has indeed been 'adulturated', by western white culture. As the man said, Buddhism was not Buddhism until some european religion scholar dubbed it as such.....& there are a lot of parochial offshoot 'schools' of Buddhism that are as wrapped up in dogma as any JudeoXtian 'faith'. That's the way wee humans is compelled & conditioned for 1000s years...trying to contrive a concrete reality of the unknowable, so now (for a longlong time of nows) it's conflict unto butchery re: whose concrete reality is the 'realest' reality.
one'a them Buddhi oldtimers said "if enlightenment is to manifest, first one must rid oneself of any Belief that enlightenment is even possible".....and, of course, the old "if you meet the buddha on the road, kill him"...which says thinking-you-know is a false knowing, so kill the thought.
But ye seem to have a leg up on this stuff.
today's your 1st day here. there seems a maturity in your writing (& spirit perspective) that is very underdeveloped in most of the very ego-based writings you'll see here.

Truly Beautiful. I have read a little about buddhism, and the what came to my notice was how buddhism takes a view of lust, it accepts lust for what it is, unlike any other mainstream religion, which are so paranoid of 'KAMA', that they have classified it as evil. Although Hinduism can be very well viewed as the parent religion of Buddhism, I know how corrupted a religion it is (I am a hindu). there are temples where women are not allowed to enter, hypocrisy at its glorious heights.
