The Purrsistence of Life
Half of a bag of Friskies clenched
in my one hand and a joint dangling
in the other I walk towards the fat edge
of nothing.
One leg over the lake, I watch my
reflection shake and move,
then I hear the meows of the gimpy
cat, Honey, I step back and do what
I do, feed the poor cat.
Endings are easy it's everything before
that's hard.
Of course, no fucking lighter.
