I can't stress enough I DID NOT WRITE THIS POEM, but I had this overwhelming urge to share it as this is a "Hot Button" issue for me and many others out there who have done their time and since came home. So I made it into visual poetry and decided to share it.

The author encourages honest critique.
Lets get to the big old elephant that's in the infantry. I have no clue how the stigma started but it is most definitely there. Men and mental disorders such as Post Traumatic Stress are the biggest wound on the battlefield. Yet no one wants to actually address the topic because in order to do so you have to first admit you need help. Lets be serious, you take the strongest men the military has to offer and send them through hell and the outcome is a man who feels that he is untouchable. So for one to admit that he needs help seems to himself that he is weak. Weakness being frowned upon, very little admit they need help and carry on with life. So in order to escort the elephant out of the room we need to realize that getting help is not a sign of weakness but a sign of true strength. To admit you need help during an internal struggle and getting that help is one of the bravest things one can do. You are letting someone see the depths of your heart and soul. So you, whoever you are and where ever life takes you. Get the help you need. Let your guard down and understand that to get better we must open up. Tell your story.
Your write above has never been more important, clear, truthful, heart felt and absolutely needed, for all who struggle, in kind.
Tearing down any of those preconceived notions of male weakness, etc.... is direly needed.
I am in complete and utter awe at this piece, Swagger. It's this type of bravery that is hard for people to reconcile in their own minds and that as a daughter of a former Marine who fought in Vietnam, I cannot begin to thank you enough for shining your light upon. It's so superbly put together, booth visually with you choice of author to match your graphic art and your above written spill.

That's the number
22 Vets take their own lives everyday because either they did not get or could not find help. Its heartbreaking when you look at it. I was one of the lucky ones who found a means of being and feeling productive, being able to add value to something I deem important, but so many are not so lucky.
