Chrysanthemum

silently you feel a little longer in the tooth,
I really want you to feel;
the autumn air keeps us three feet apart
we cannot touch--
you thank me for being nice to you,
I wonder why you're so closed
your breeze is going southeast
and your chlorophyll: decomposed,
the sweetness in the easy comfort
I ache a little when you leave,
turned into a wildflower slumber
among the white ash trees,
if I were to make you a classic,
an emblem, an icon, a star,
of a bygone modern era
admired and loved from afar,
close:
to shut out or
to pull near?
to vaguely clutch victory or
stand in the shadow and linger..
doe, a deer,
my dear, you do not understand,
I would collapse the boundaries of this planet
to move my mind closer to yours,
match your resonant frequency,
vibrate at the same wavelength;
it is so easy being near you,
the winter brings its tidings,
the fall colors are like your hair,
lightest blonde brown,
steeping in your warmth
I love you very much.
