Of Strategies and Endgames
Hey player…
I have to address this so I’ll get it off my chest,
Life is a game you really have to think through,
At times you’ll have to make an educated guess,
And it will all depend on your point of view.
It is a long and profound thought process,
A mystery where you have to find the clues,
Just when you think you’ve made progress,
Be sure of each and every move you choose.
Are you mentally ready to analyze and assess?
Prepared to stare at squares for a long time?
Look into your opponent’s eyes and access –
Your perceptive powers to read their mind?
Will your strategy be aggressive and flawless?
What will you sacrifice to reach your goal?
Will you play like a grandmaster or a novice?
Will you be able to have emotional control?
The pieces on the board in the game of chess,
Are symbols and roles we play in life and war,
Tactics must be displayed with great finesse,
While building integrity, character and rapport.
Now take a breath, will you chess or death?
The end game is what you set out to prove,
Your scheme should be adaptive but stealth,
So hey player, what’s your next move?

Ooooohhhhh. I like everything about this write. From the font, which is teasingly subtle to the message which is bold in your face and warning. Make your move, and hopefully you’ve mapped out the bigger picture because everything has a consequence and I’m waiting on the other side with my own agenda. Wishing you all the best in the comp. I loved playing it when I was a kid. It was a great weekend when my uncle, dad, a family friend and I would spend hours playing and learning. I got good enough to beat them a couple of times, plus the several books I read also helped my game.
It is a game to spend some quiet time, to think and to bond.

My father forced my brother and me to learn to play chess from a very early age. He always said it would assist me in life; however, he honestly believed it would keep me one step ahead of the boys!

My uncle and I were very into it, he had several books on the subject. Along with my dad and a family friend, we'd spend hours on the weekend. Eventually I got good but by the time I got to jr. high music was taking up most of my time.
I stopped playing for over 25 years but last week I took an Elometer test and got a 1309 (just above novice), so if I start playing on a regular basis, I could improve.
With my dad no longer around, my uncle and I spend hours talking about the strategies and theories. He tells me to be careful because one can become consumed by the passion and the heartbreak.
I could understand how your father would show you to play. It really does make you think and get into the other's person's mindset. It really is a test of the mind.

I had to dig into my childhood memories to remember the lessons my uncle and dad used to teach me and now how I'll teach my sons.

Thank you New, yes, I learned to play early on, now I feel like I should've applied more of the tactics and patience. But now I'm sure to follow it closer.
