Working on a dysfunctional relationship

If you wouldn't mind
I would like to sleep
Don't want to think about nighttime
When you go off the deep

I hid all the scissors
And the knives you won't find
Anything that can cause me harm
Is something I'll always hide

If you wouldn't mind
When I fix my cereal
Don't mix crushed dog treats in
That should be criminal

I promise I'll try too
I'm not ready to be done
And I understand when
I put glue in your toothpaste
It's no longer fun

No more throwing things
That break or hurt
Maybe just wadded up paper
Or a styrofoam cup

I think our therapy is going well
It's been awhile since the neighbors
Called the cops
And either of us have gone to jail

We say I don't hate you
When we go to bed every night
And we both pick up
The wadded up paper and cups
After we have a fight

To tell the truth
I love to wake and see your face
Just being beside you
Makes me ready to face the day
