Are You Ashamed?
as usual i was embarrassed
by what i saw on
the evening news
ashamed
of our human capacity
to hurt and maim one another
to desecrate the body
to demean
to hate
perhaps shame
drew me to
helping professions
to learn the secret
that care of the patient is
caring for the patient
each of us has the capacity to fix what is broken
to heal
bones hearts communities our selves
yet many
choose
another path
have they no shame

"I'm ashamed"
It's insane. Inhumane.
The capacity of the human brain.
Yet, we use this power to bring pain.
I'm ashamed.
Bloodstained.
Something has to change.
Like Django unchained in a plain coat.
Another brother from the same boat. Red blood. White bone.
The same injustice you read about in history books,
See for yourself how this misery looks.
Built on violence and enslavement,
Kept chained in Captain America's basement.
Navajo became American Indian... Written in our nation's compendium of doom.
This millennial gloom.
"God!"
The killing has to quit.
We're still sinking our own battleships.
If only the colonists had mingled with the pacifists.
The activists still scream.
"The only way is revolution!"
For an end to "the means",
If only evolution hadn't worn her selfish genes...

Second poem in a row read that speaks of hatred and human failure. While it's sad to think about such human nature, it's hopeful to see it pointed out. Knowing it's seen and not being ignored

The saddest part of it all is the most shameful people among us might be Christians,Muslims, Jews or some other unkind, hypocritical,selfish religion.
