Warning Sign
In shallow graves of European shame,
The holocaust of vengeance still remains.
The merchants of destruction still applaud
This flaying of our freedom by the sword.
Hanging by the limb of every word,
The codex of our future never heard.
This viral web of anger in our minds,
Reflected in the mirrors of Versailles.

The Treaty of Versailles (1919) contributed to the rise of Fascism in Germany. Sometimes we don't see the warning signs until its too late.

This poem makes a warning from history. Fascism in Germany certainly arose from resentment of the vindictive peace settlements by the allies, some of whose politicians in the 1930s tried to appease this fascism by being the extreme opposite in a failed attempt to make up for that that failed to avert World War II.
