Humbled by a mouse
It all started because I spied a tree
just off the beaten path
With its branches placed just so,
it had potential for climbing
But once I entered the forest
dappled silence beckoned me further
criss-crossing deer tracks through undergrowth
leading me ever deeper
Until, stepping out from the tangling brush
I stood in a velveted fairy realm
A green-cloaked stump waited, ready
inviting me to linger
So I sat in lush stillness
on my imagined woodland throne
enjoying gracious hospitality
and the reverent hush of moss
A mouse skittered past
gave a fleeting incurious glance
I said hello
but he was too busy to notice
