Thinking Inside the Box

No packed arena or stadium.
No “Pomp and Circumstance” played.
No hard-won diploma awarded,
just smiling friends,
honking horns,
waving hands,
Passing in drive-by parade.

No walks down the aisle
in step with processional,
perhaps “Canon in D” on harp.
Father and daughter arm in arm,
cute little angels rose petals chunk
Instead the officiator
in the middle frame appears,
happy couple just below,
guests on the screen’s periphery arrayed
At the newly wedded
air-kisses they blow.

New born babies,
their candles burning bright.
And happy souls departed
who dwell in perfect light.
Oblivious both of need for celebration
But what of the new parents
who want to share
with family and friends,
elation for their new creation.
And they who grieve
a dear loved-ones passing.
Human touch they need,
to help them relieve
the weight of grief amassing.
Oh the beginnings and endings we miss
whilst dwelling in isolation

Author's Note
My daughter was to have attended her college graduation today. Instead my clever companion staged a drive-by parade where dear friends drove by our home expressing well wishes to my daughter dressed in cap 'n' gown. That got me thinking of other seminal events in life that are being disrupted by this horrific virus.
