For man also does not know his time: Like fish taken in a cruel net, Like
birds caught in a snare, So the sons of men are snared in an evil time,
When it falls suddenly upon them. —Ecclesiastes 9:12 NKJV
death
comes upon us
like foolish fish
taken
in a cruel net
like innocent corn
roasted
in a hungry fire
breath
feigns to fan us
with hope's last wish
waken
like a sun unset
in early-born morn
when with
fate life would conspire
fear
heartless reaper
of fragile hearts
stealer
of bright confidence
supplanter of faith
in his
high fake chariot
where
is my Healer
of broken parts
Keeper
of my circumference
when life’s dizzy lathe
in cold
dust leaves me to rot
hope
for tomorrow
gives birth this day
victims
of the silent thief
whose trust rests in God
never
shall corruption see
scope
for the sparrow
bears human sway
with Him
in whom life’s motif
shall yet leave death awed
by its
immortality
