Small planets
Beyond the window
fat snow flakes are falling
through barren pin oaks
As squirrels burrowed in dusk
I nest amid poetry—
but, unlike squirrels
I shan't be sleeping. . .

Snow? Brrrr! 18-20 degC here by mid-day and Spring has sprung, though a mild frost still appears early morning if it's been a clear sky. It's the busy time planting -- various lettuces, kale, strawberries -- and pruning the vines and olive trees.

Josh, it's the south. Yesterday it was in the 50's; today heavy snow in the 40's. Tonight rain in the 30's making for iceland tomorrow. This weekend? Who knows—we may be able to sunbath here.

it's about getting that whole life
balance thing right, it's fine to write a poem
up a tree, just maybe not during
a bad weather night .. :)

I've had my fill of snow in this lifetime, but look forward to lifetimes of poetry from you. xo

You must be somewhere in the southeast, Ben! Of course, it's snowing other places too—but it was magically unexpected here.

Thank you, my friend! Nothing like a quite evening in a warm home watching snow fall.

It's a magical one, PoT. I wish everyone could experience it in their lifetime. Thank you.

"I nest amid poetry" that is such an epic and cool line. I can almost picture you sipping on hot chocolate (or tea), looking at the window as the snowflakes inspire you.
Beautiful write.

Small planets. Yes. Truly. I love them. Even brutal ones... each one is a teacher. Each one to me is like a little code ...not a code authored by the poet, but of a greater system... one easily likened to God.
May you be the queen of many such worlds, especially in bitter seasons.

I never thought I'd envy anyone else's snowflake, but they are great for inspiring winter poems especially when they land on your car window and you can see its detaied structure up close. We have had nary a one in southern New England this winter yet, but it's still early unless the groundhog was right about an early spring...

Thanks, PR. I actually translated Phil's sign as "You won't be having a winter this year." LOL! I dread warmer weather because we didn't have a deep freeze this year, which means ticks, fleas, and mosquitos will be out in full force soon!
And, yes, they are wonderful for the imagination. It's the only one we had this year ( so far we've had blizzards in March before ), and it fell at the perfect time.

Being late, am trying to comment without reading the others (Haha.) I absolutely love your concision, the scene rendered in a direct tone and minute details. Like an Eastern poem, or something by Carlos Williams.

Eastern or Williams is one of the best compliments ever; thank you for that. Made my day.
