the truth about sadness

sadness lives inside me
it is an old tree
I climb in its branches
where I am at home

there is wisdom here
its fruit is ripened by life
you can't pick it from any other tree

it is uniquely cultivated person to person
sadness a divine ingredient
used to season the soul

in evolution, we blink past the tears
as the dawn rises in our mind
and we learn what is most important to us
loss is kin to sadness...they are family
keepers of the hidden knowledge

it's through our losses we gain
an immortal kind of love
the kind that exists after ages of strife
an enduring love

sadness the teacher
by it, our souls learn grief
and we continue to evolve
not past the need for one another
but with a deeper appreciation of our loves

by it, we are able to reconcile our differences
in constant revolution around each other
we grow in understanding

sadness is the tree who nourishes my spirit
flavoring it with beauty
seeing me through to a new day with you

I know I couldn't live without you
