Sword
Love is a one-edged sword
facing a two-edged sword
and saying
“I have no second edge
to flip around
and use against you”.

Thank you anonymouslyhere for the read and comment. Comps that force one to be short and to the point are great motivators for a careful choice of words.

Love is a sword
Made of his flesh
Received by womb
Rather than wound-
She has no time
For petty yearns
She only bleeds
On her own terms

Rather than wound-
She has no time
For petty yearns
She only bleeds
On her own terms

Yes, I'm thinking of a sword as an instrument of discernment that never needs to be used in a directly aggressive way.

Thank you Harry the visit, and for the RL; always nice to read I've struck a chord with another poet.

Oh yeah...
you've hit the nail on it's head...
and in a delightful display
of well pointed brevity
I just gotta say...
thank you, Josh for this precious piece...hugs, Ely

Thank you LostGirl; and for the RL.
Glad you liked it - the idea of a 'one-edged sword' I think is to be found in "A Course in Miracles' which I read ages ago and probably stuck in my mind from there :))

Hi Vamps, Thanks for looking back into my archive. I think if a sword is seen as a tool of discernment, teasing apart truth from deception, honesty from lies, soul from ego, etc ... then it has a metaphorical role in our lives. I was 40 by the time I found 'her' - after a seriously false start(s) - but 20 year on I can vouch for holding true to the dream. By all accounts a good relationship is also a powerful health insurance - according to some scientific studies. Best regards, Josh.
