A Rhapsody’s Silhouette
( after Wendell Berry )
Overhead,
a crow and I connect
as his black silhouette
wings its way
by glory of midday.
But he won’t know
about you and I, my love
in his trajectory above.
Made closer by his tack,
he knows not of us
nor we of each passing,
with black wings
beating a message
in the sun.
Though far apart you & I
we share the sight
of one sweeping
blue & midnight sky,
beyond the tops of
trees, the crested hills.
Until, and always,
the curve of the earth,
its horizons
as the crow flies;
the rhapsody
that draws us still.
Overhead,
a crow and I connect
as his black silhouette
wings its way
by glory of midday.
But he won’t know
about you and I, my love
in his trajectory above.
Made closer by his tack,
he knows not of us
nor we of each passing,
with black wings
beating a message
in the sun.
Though far apart you & I
we share the sight
of one sweeping
blue & midnight sky,
beyond the tops of
trees, the crested hills.
Until, and always,
the curve of the earth,
its horizons
as the crow flies;
the rhapsody
that draws us still.

Excellent.
You captured the essence of Wendell's poem perfectly.
Jade, I must confess, your talent is so great I don't know if I should be jealous of it, or love you all the more because of it.
Let's get married.

The syllabic harmony lends the whole a charming meter. Your message is subtly winsome. Excellent read to start my day.

Thank you, my friend, you have indeed been able to call it as I heard & felt it as the piece revealed itself to me. A special reaction imparted as to the effect on the start of your day - as if this touched you as a morning’s daily devotional.

Thank so much, dear PR, I too adore the subject. I had a few to choose from but I kept coming back to this. The inspiration made the writing experience just as memorable for me as when I write something extremely complex.
I’m pleased you came over for a read.

Wonderful observatory entry, Jade. Berry felt there was always more to something, a story behind the scene which often connected humanity to nature and vice-a-versa. I feel you have captured that spirit perfectly here. Definitely Berry's essence.
Best of luck in the comp.
