Illusion Of Freedom (Inspired By Jim Morrison)

Lady Liberty fleeces the daylight,
her soft, red petals of promise
flowing in the milky dawn.

She is soft against the hardness
of metal on bone
as the chosen ones march
for her on tree-lined streets
in the unbruised soul of America.

Writhing in untold stories
the unknown soldier waits
marching to the bands' drum
where he was found at last.

When will he be found;
when the flag frays in
the winds of tomorrow.

He sleeps, unwoken to a child's eyes,
his only child cries and remembers him
vaguely as himself,
he is in the music he hears
inside his dreams
alone, unwoken to glories
bludgeoning the still morning
in the city streets
where adorned ones march
pushing the dull heat
of cadent footsteps
on to the doorways of
stolen liberties.

Come home
to yesterday's stolen promises,
come home
to madness unfurled.

Soldier child, you are
not forgotten,
the daylight beckons
your dreams from a
womb of sorrow.

Like a star
you light up the night sky,
like a star
you sparkle and fade.
