your
children,
though they drink

oozes from your breast,
are not  your  p r o p e r t y.
mingled  with  the  privilege,
awesome  r e s p o n s i b i l i t y.
p r o v o k e  them  n o t  to  apathy:
they're  a  g o d l y   heritage,
robust  and  full  and  free.
driven to the test,
take this comfort:
children’s ink
—dead men’s
cure.

where thick darkness

nibbles at their conscience.
nurture  and  admonish  them.
arrows  in the hands of warriors,
they shall bless your quiver’s barriers.
neither do their lips condemn,
clothed in their innocence
for   e t e r n i t y.
wisdom harkens,
faith beckons:
love’s cry
heed.

In the visual version, the blended presentation includes two simultaneous poems differentiated by colour and content. This "rhymed blended mirrored double octet" is a personal experiment I have been evolving, in which:  (a) two rhymed poems have been merged (blended); (b) both poems use end-to-end rhyming -- lines of corresponding syllabic count are rhyming couplets.  A mirrored octet is (c) one whose syllabic count descends or ascends  and then moves in the opposite direction to form a mirror image.  The blend is obvious in the visual version only:  (d) two poems appear in parallel space, with elements (colour, content, font style, etc.) that help to distinguish one from the other. The poems have a common or opposing them
