provoke them not
♫a rhymed blended mirrored double octet♫
your
children,
though they drink
o f the m i l k that
oozes from your breast,
are not your p r o p e r t y.
mingled with the privilege,
awesome r e s p o n s i b i l i t y.
p r o v o k e them n o t to apathy:
they're a g o d l y heritage,
robust and full and free.
driven to the test,
take this comfort:
children’s ink
—dead men’s
cure.
lead
not my
l i t t l e o n e s
where thick darkness
o f u n c e r t a i n t y
nibbles at their conscience.
nurture and admonish them.
arrows in the hands of warriors,
they shall bless your quiver’s barriers.
neither do their lips condemn,
clothed in their innocence
for e t e r n i t y.
wisdom harkens,
faith beckons:
love’s cry
heed.
