Image for the poem Desperately Wanting

Desperately Wanting

I, having had the misfortune
To fall head over heels
You forever remorseless
I, desperately wanting to feel

The thrill of an adventure
A lover such that I had never known
And I have never recaptured
I remain alone

You came to me in midsummer
A knight in shining armor
The errant behavior a primer
A sign of things to come

Oh! How I loved your sadness
Like a Madonna loves her only child
Driving me to the edge of madness
Vain attempts to tame the wild

Years have passed no longer together
Sometimes in the fleeting I long for you still
A together you promised would be forever
Gone forever is the thrill
