Re: Re. Take A Seat
As I consider the difference between loving oneself, e.g., being comfortable and accepting of who/what you are,
and the extreme condition of 'being in love with yourself', e.g. stuck on oneself, then indeed narcissism stands between the two.
Since I did not proclaim all narcissism is inherently bad, I believe the piece speaks to my answer. Perhaps the discrepancy lies within our respective interpretations.
Thank you, for taking the time to pose the question, for how else would I have had the opportunity to explain further my reason behind the wording of the piece.

Thank you, Harry.

The heart blind is how I refer to narcissists in discussion of the subject. I watched a crime documentary recently. A man with occult interests one day, for whatever reason or lack thereof as his inner turmoils built to a fever pitch, raped and murdered his three very young stepdaughters and set the house on fire. The wife and mother demanded to confront him as he was held in the police interrogation room. She asks him, Why would you do this? He says, I am afraid of you right now. How do you think I feel? There is a bent toward making everything about the self stronger than gravity, more akin to the crush of a black hole, where the narcissists heart center ought to be. Fascinating if loathsome subject to consider.

Your comment is spot on and does indeed bring some light to this condition.
I have a relative that displays strong signs of narcissism by attempting to bring herself to the forefront of nearly every conversation or situation. I sometimes feel it is a lack of self esteem more so than conceit, that causes this condition. A need to build up oneself in order to feel equal, taken to such an extreme that she begins to believe it herself.
Thank you, Daniel

Sociopathology has many shades and gradients, like most things in this life. It is a cocktail of brain chemistry, developmental period circumstances and a continuance for these issues to go unaddressed over a time period, my investigation into the phenomenon suggests. You have those who commit violent crime with hardly a racing pulse on one end of a spectrum and those who are simply self centered and manipulative on the other. A fair segment of society displays some tendency toward the latter.

Meh. Narcissism isn’t a word in my dictionary. I’m selfish about my time and my well being and who I give my energy too. If being selfish is narcissistic, then happily tattoo that on my forehead... lol!

" I’m selfish about my time and my well being and who I give my energy too."
This, in my understanding of the word is not being in love with oneself, If I would expect everyone to see things my way, do things with the end result being to my advantage regardless of any self inflected harm to them, or pay homage to me at and when of my choosing, then yea, I'm a narcissist.
Protecting oneself from outside influences that are harmful is not being selfish nor is choosing who to let in.
The good you accomplish for others, far outweigh the good you garner for yourself, least that's my choice to believe.
Thanks for weighing in. It is appreciated deeply.
