Passing of My Former Wife

Passing of My Former Wife

Dream unreels like a movie
Projected onto the screen of my soul
My Chess move is back
to the university apartments
Where she ironed out the wrinkles in my dignity
And scrubbed out the stains of my sins
Only to remove my karmic lint with her roller
And she hung my laundry on the clothesline
In the courtyard where dreams go to be reborn
But I catch a taxi to my second floor flat
Yet the complex is a gentrified Shopping Mall
With retail encroaching on residential
My unit is morphing into Best Buy
And time rules Cupid’s fallen arrow
To get my memorabilia out
The cab driver says to live like a king in Mexico
As we pass the Versailles of student living
I purchase an all-night bus pass
And ride the road until dawn
Looking for her aura
Between the hedgerows
