'Cooee Cobber'

There’s been a lot of talk of late
About what it means to be Aussie –
YES ,
I refuse to move meat ‘round a Barby
Or wear a lifeguards cossie .
Although they are iconic ,that I’ll not deny ,
I’m a vegetarian –
I’m not big on meat pie !
As for ‘ Budgie Smugglers ,‘
I think I’d rather die –
Than wear ‘em !

Yes Australia is brimming with icons
Like the ones been suggested ,
Rather ,
Should be proudly acknowledged
Than necessarily digested.
When you’re out on the town
Or at your front gate ,
And I pass you by and say
‘ G’day Mate .’
Then I’m simply implying
That I’m friendly to you and others ,
And we are no more or less
Than Universal Brothers -
Regardless the values
We were taught by our Mothers .

I show you respect
When I bid you ‘ Good Day ‘
And a Smile in return
Is all you need say .
My oath of allegiance
To this beautiful place ,
Is to show Dignity and Compassion
To all that I face ,
assimilate , at my own pace ,
Preserve in return my personal space
And receive a ‘ Fair Go’
For the things that I chase .

To foster Goodwill ,
Especially toward the forlorn ,
And maintain a sense of humour
Especially whilst weathering a storm .

These are the values to have and perform
When aspiring to be
‘ A great Aussie Norm .‘

Inauguration upon the Landscape of this nation
Is a work in progress ,Enticing us to  
 Live and learn in life with Heart ,
And In Harmony -
 as when Kookaburras laugh ,
Imbuing us to be Patriotic ,
Yet unfaltering on Freedoms Path .
