Beginning of the End

The watchtower seems quite well manned
But darkness dwells within the woods
Its trees reaching slowly forth
And with their approach, a mad king quails
 
His guilt dwells within his soul
With ambition bolstered by sheer wealth
Now novas bursting from his flag
Catalyzed by crimson stripes
 
He takes a swift, defiant stance  
And draws an untried blade
But he sees ghosts at every turn
Gloating 'neath the outraged stars
 
He beseeches them to hide their fires
Not witness his demise
But the jesters mime his grotesque moves
And see the end based on his lies.
