... it died in the 1980s under Thatcher/Reagan - once deregulation/privatisation got the go-ahead, the rest was inevitable. Society ("There's no such thing as society" quote from Thatcher) and pulling together for the common good, died; and it was every man for himself. 30 years later, sadly, the results (which many predicted) are all to clear to see.

good question Ely...
i was born in a democracy and one highly influenced by socialism(not communism) we were taught two thing in our primary school...
1.unity in diversity
2. peaceful co-existence
and explained well as children...in the west unfortunately i struggle to find these two terms let alone the practice...

Yes they are, the lessons... though sadly with rapidly diminishing popularity...
the system supports equality to a good extent but not good enough..
Well i have a close relationship with the states but won't be stepping there anytime soon...
am happy in my home.. down under....
