The Calm Between the Storms
(These are song lyrics from the alt-rock band Echo of a Sundial, a relatively popular early 90’s group hailing from a suburb of Seattle in the United States of My Head. All song lyrics - unless otherwise noted - are credited to lead vocalist Jeremy Whitfield with occasional input from his band mates)
The Static raindrops
The wreckage fading
Swimming
jumping
Falling off the earth
The endless envy
Of Pieces in me
Still drifting
floating
Falling to the dirt
On my knees
Beneath the weeping trees
Still standing past the rage...
...'till tomorrow
Be still...
the lightning chases toward
the fearful sprinting forward
Away
From the homespun whip and cane
Be still...
The midnight winds rip into
The hells that you have been to
Inside
The last place you can hide
And what can be
Will never stand in me
If I could hold your hand,
I'd pretend I had a plan
*
All the same
I won't call out your name
This monkey on my back is saddled well
- Can't you tell?
All the same
I think I'll go insane
This dream between the storms will suit me well...
...'till tomorrow
(Ooooh...
Ooooh...)
*
Only your body ever breaks the rain
Nightmares quaking, shaking
Breaking On your skin
Shattered window dreams clog the drains
Visions Blowing, snowing
Rolling In the wind
Just hold your breath,
patience, patience
Be still
Oh wind and violence,
sick and tired
Be still
(Wait for me...)
Where can the clouds and shadows
Be stilled
(Reach for me...)
How can this lightning serpent
Be killed?
(Oooh...
your eyes wash over me like rain
Oooh...
if I could just reach through your pain)
And what could be
Will never breathe in me
If I could take your hand
I'd fake a final stand
*
All the same
I can't call out your name
This monkey on my back is saddled well
- Can't you tell?
All the same
You know I'll go insane
This calm between the storms will soothe me well...
...'till tomorrow
(Ooooh...
Ooooh...)
*
You know I know
The torch lies in the labyrinth in the
mirror frame
I know you know
The stretching shadow of the truth
Just the same
Don't fight the wind for me...
You're never gonna beat the wind for me...
*
All the same
I'll just disgrace your name
This monkey on my back is bringing hell
- Can't you tell?
All the same
I'm too far past insane
This breath between the storms has cooled me...
Your touch between the storms has soothed me...
This calm between the storms has fooled me...
...'till tomorrow...
(Ooooh...
Ooooh...)
The Static raindrops
The wreckage fading

Falling off the earth
The endless envy
Of Pieces in me
Still drifting
floating
Falling to the dirt...
