Breath After Breath

Its the same, breath after breath,
I cannot live without these embers.
And once again, I hold onto you.
Always before ever after
I hold onto you.

I will stay here inside the moon—
I can be silver in the clouds
And shadows in the candles
Of summer gardens where the ghosts
Are still passing through my mind.
But this, you have never known.

I cannot be an angel,
I cannot fly...
I cannot play the string.
If I cannot sing in the sky
What, then, can I ever show?
Your dreams are the blade,
And I—I've become the dew.
And wilt thou stone me,
Or cast me to the hounds?
I cannot be you, I cannot be you
I cannot be you for a day,
Or for the rest of my life.

I'm the same, and you are you.
And I am laughing in my sleep,
Feeling the same love for you:
The fragrance of the ashes
That have been our seasons.
I will take them; I will take them to the moon.
And how happy we will be
Inside the moon...
