On Writing Poetry
I find most of the joy in making a poem
lies in actualy writing it down...
then there is a brief period of post-partum glow
when one wants ev-erybody to admire the new baby...
After that it's post-partum depression... as the glow fades
and leaves a big empty hole in my middle...
and I reach for my pen... again...

Yeah, I enjoy the process of getting inspired by others or things that happen to me inside or outside. The feedback from others is icing on the cake. If I put out one piece a day, I feel a sense of satisfaction. Especially now during the summer duldrums here in the village...I don't connect with a lot of folks in town and connecting with my poems online gives me a sense of participation and contribution.

I hear that, Hijita... nothing quite like being able to do something productive when the garden gets poached and it's too steamy to go out.

Yeah... like when you come home-from-a-great-vacation... and start planning the next one.?

Yes, it's a little bit like that, lol. But even better if you can write about your vacation at the same time, bringing it all back. I did that very thing when I wrote about a trip I took to Texas called, 'Sweet Home Ala Texas'. I didn't write it straight away, maybe a week later. But let's face it, sometimes we write about experiences years after they have happened. I call it revisiting. :-)

You're right on that count, for sure...
sometimes things have to jell, before we can pick them up and look them over...
Thanks for your insights, Snaggy... and the visit... E

Had a little introspection after reading this poem. My favourite part is in the editing.. Love it!
I sometimes, can't leave em alone... Reading them over and over. Changing a little thing each time. Just for my own kicks.
Thanks for this and the tought process.

I'm fond of editing too... especially for the challenge it sometimes offers...
It's like a puzzle with more than one correct answer...
or a game of three-dimensional chess
Once in a while... I'll edit... and edit... and in the end I find myself shit-canning the whole thing and going back to the original piece... Ely

Haha! I do that too!
I also get to editing and hate the piece halfway through and burn them. History I tell you. History!
Thanks for the smile.
