Image for the poem The Fire

The Fire's Return

The witch shrieks curses from the fire
The flames around her rising higher
The blaze consumes her to the bone
The black smoke drifting, then wind-blown

Her words echo through the years
Spark her persecutors' fears
They and their families hear her cry
And security is now a lie

The enchantress rises from the grave
Her visage pale, and vengeance craved
Her foes have thus far all survived
But on this day she has arrived

She brings forces spawned in Hell
Marching under her command and spell
The zealots feel their fortune turn
And hypocrites begin to burn.
